MediaTek's Latest Dimensity 9300 Chipset: A Strong Competitor for Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
MediaTek has recently unveiled its latest flagship chipset, the Dimensity 9300. This new chipset is set to compete with the previously announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The Dimensity 9300 is manufactured using TSMC's 4nm+ process. What sets this chipset apart is its design, featuring eight powerful cores without the use of power-efficient cores.
The chipset incorporates a single Cortex-X4 primary core clocked at 3.25GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores clocked at 2.85GHz, and four Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 2.0GHz, all based on the Armv9 architecture.
MediaTek claims that the Dimensity 9300 offers a 40% performance boost compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 9200, which was released the previous year, all while consuming 33% less power. This CPU is paired with the Immortalis-G720 MC13 GPU, which features 12 cores. The GPU offers hardware-based ray tracing and a 46% improvement over its predecessor.
The Dimensity 9300 supports hardware-based ray tracing and variable rate rendering technology. MediaTek has collaborated with game developers to optimize ray tracing in games, providing a more immersive visual experience.
In terms of hardware support, the Dimensity 9300 is compatible with LPDDR5T RAM and UFS 4.0 for internal storage, as reported by GSM Arena on Tuesday (7/11/2023).
To compete with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the Dimensity 9300 also features AI capabilities. It is equipped with the APU 790, supporting generative AI with Stable Diffusion, capable of generating images in just one second and supporting LLM with up to 33 billion parameters.
The Dimensity 9300 also supports screens with resolutions up to WQHD and a refresh rate of 180Hz. It also includes dual-active screen support for foldable devices.
Connectivity is supported by the R16 5G modem, which supports 4CC-CA Sub-6GHz and 8CC-CA mmWave bands. The chipset also supports Wi-Fi 7 with speeds up to 6.5 Gbps and MediaTek 5G UltraSave 3.0+ for up to 10% improved power efficiency.
The MediaTek Dimensity 9300 is expected to debut with the Vivo X100. The latest flagship smartphone from Vivo will be announced in China tomorrow.
