Telkomsel to Expand 5G Network in Indonesia
Telkomsel is set to expand its 5G network in Indonesia. So far, the mobile operator has deployed around 470 5G base transceiver stations (BTS). This number marks an increase of approximately 50 BTS compared to the second quarter of 2023, with further expansion in the pipeline.
"In our recent financial report, we revealed that we currently have 470 BTS 5G. There will be further development in line with the regulatory ecosystem, including incentives and more," stated Vice President Corporate Communications and Social Responsibility at Telkomsel, Saki Hamsat Bramono, in Jakarta on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
Currently, Telkomsel is in discussions with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) regarding 5G incentives. Notably, these incentives are offered by the government to mobile operators implementing fifth-generation cellular networks.
If these incentives materialize, Telkomsel will further intensify the coverage of its 5G signal across various regions of the country. "With 5G incentives, it is possible for the coverage to expand even more, especially given the high utility of 5G," he added.
Saki also mentioned that Telkomsel aims to provide 5G signals as the construction of the National Capital of Indonesia (IKN) progresses. "We support all government programs and follow the directives of the president and government in the direction of telecommunications infrastructure development. We will provide the best service. If 5G is needed, we will introduce 5G, and the same goes for IndiHome fixed broadband," he explained.
